The Electronic Dart Board

Darts has been dragged into the 21st century with the advent of the Electronic Dart Board. They are a great leap forward for the sport of darts. No more "chalking" required, the board does it all for you, including telling you whose turn it is with certain models. The other more dubious feature of some boards is the Heckle feature, which as the name suggests heckles you for poor throwing, or the cheerleader option which shouts encouragement at you when you throw. Whilst not everyone's cup of tea, this fun feature is on most of the electronic dart board's list of options.

The other great benefit of these boards is the fact that all the games are programmed into them such as the ubiquitous Cricket game so that you don't have to keep score, the board does it all with most of them having some way of indicating the O and X of the game (usually with leds but some of the more expensive boards have the letter X and O above the Cricket numbers) This means of course you don't need scorecards and mistakes and the accompanying rows are avoided. Not only that but most of them will keep score for up to 8 players at a time, so you could have your own darts tournament at home as well.

As well as Cricket the usual games such as 501 and 301 are also programmed in and a lot of the boards also have a solo feature so you can practice on your own against the computer. Some of the boards will also calculate your average score so you can see if you are improving your game or getting worse.

There are two types of electronic board out now, the standard board on which you have to use your standard soft tip darts and has lots and lots of holes in them and the new BristleTech boards which have a similar design to the traditional Bristle dart boards used in the steel tip game but encompass the electronics as well, so you can use your steel tip darts as well as the soft tip darts, giving you the best of both worlds.

The march of electronics goes on, have a look at the new Halex electronic board which has not only the standard features but has a Laser toe line as well! How cool is that, a laser marks out the throwing position for you all done for you by this amazing new dartboard.

The electronic dart board is truly a modern marvel and I think greatly enhanced the game. I can't wait to see what they come up with next.
